With the first bullet train to be fired next Thursday, many routes on China's railway lines will be adjusted. Railway stations in Shanghai will introduce new routes, as well as measures to attract more passengers.

After the new railway route is completed, more than 10 pairs of high-speed trains will be added daily at railway stations in Shanghai, a 31-percent rise compared to the current number.

More trains will also be added during the weekend to meet increasing passenger volume.

Altogether there will be 178 pairs of high-speed trains travelling at more than 3-hundred kilometers per hour in three directions: Beijing to Shanghai, Shanghai to Ningbo, and Shanghai to Hangzhou.

Meanwhile, an online-ticket booking system will make it more convenient for passengers to buy tickets.

Zhu Wenzhong, Head of Shanghai Railway Bureau, said, "Currently,we just carry out the online ticket booking system on the Beijing-Shanghai high speed railway. Later, we will enlarge the scope. It marks the biggest change of how tickets are sold in China's railway history."

To attract more passengers to board the train, staff at the railway stations are also adding more road markings as well as setting up self-service ticket vending machines.

Meanwhile, efforts to help passengers book hotels, rent cars and recommend tourism attractions are also being taken.

To take advantage of both high-speed rail and air travel, Shanghai Hongqiao Station and China Eastern Airline have signed an agreement on combined air-rail transport.

Passengers can transfer directly to high-speed trains after getting off the plane.

In this way, they will not only benefit from the high speed of the airplanes, but also enjoy the convenience railway travel brings to everyone.
