Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yukio Edano, says the Fukushima nuclear accident is different from Chernobyl and Japan is able to deal with the situation better.

But Edano says the radiation leak amounts to one-tenth of that of Chernobyl, and is not small. Radiation spilled out from the crippled plant after a hydrogen explosion. Engineers have been struggling to pump radioactive water into the Pacific ocean, a move that worries Japan's neighbors about the spread of contamination.

Containing radiation from the damaged nuclear reactors may take considerable effort.

Yukio Edano, Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary, said, "We were able to stop the explosion inside the nuclear reactor, and the spread of radiation is overwhelmingly little compared to Chernobyl, and I think there is a big difference in terms of how we dealt with the situation. We must end the disaster without causing any health hazards for people living around the nuclear plant. "
