The submarine is reportedly capable of cruising for about 10 kilometers and can stay down unaided for 24 hours.

Each dive will be driven by a different commander. Chris Welsh will lead the dive to the Mariana Trench, the deepest known trench on the planet.

Branson is to act as pilot of the Puerto Rico Trench, the deepest trench in the Atlantic, which has never been explored before.

The British tycoon says the adventure will have a scientific purpose, and he is working with various ocean research groups.

Branson also says he plans to create a larger submarine that can hold more people and offer trips to tourists that, at depth, will flatten your wallet and bank account.
