The Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant has been releasing water containing low levels of radiation into the sea since Monday, in a bid to stabilize the facility. The move has cause new concerns of pollution reaching neighboring countries. Our reporter Xue Jingmeng spoke to a researcher at the national marine environmental forecasting center, who explained the threat to the Chinese coast.

Tokyo Electric Power Company has released more than 4 thousand tons of low level radioactive water into the sea, after it ran out of storage capacity. It's about 100 times more radioactive than legal limits. China has now begun to strengthen environmental tests along its coastline.

Dr. Liu Guimei, National Marine Environmental Forecasting CTR, said, "We have two ships at sea to test the oceanic environment everyday. And actually, the statistics show there's been no impact on China's coast."

Liu says they will carry out more research.

"Due to the ocean currents from the east of Japan, the contaminated water will flow into the Pacific, away from coast of China. And the polluted water will be diluted." Said Dr. Liu.

People here, along with those in the international community, are paying great attention to the escalating situation, as the radioactive leaks continue. According to some experts, oceanic eco-systems and the fishing industry may be threatened this time, by the latest release of serious pollution.
