The personal income tax threshold will definitely be raised in China this year, according to the country's vice finance minister. Li Yong says the reform is aimed at reducing the financial burden on people with middle and low incomes.

Li says the state should not levy taxes from low-income earners, and ensure them a basic standard of living. Rising inflation in recent years has meant that a reform of income tax has become a public concern.
