In addition to luxuries and electronic goods, milk powder has become a hot commodity in Hong Kong and Macao. Following news from Hong Kong that dairy products were being snapped up by mainland tourists just after hitting the shelves, Macao has witnessed a similar buying bonanza.

Dairy products are now high on the shopping list for many mainland tourists to Hong Kong and Macao.

At the border between the city of Zhuhai in Guangdong Province and Macao, many visitors were seen returning home with boxes of baby formula.

Mainland tourist said, "It's for children after all. I feel more assured using this brand of baby powder. There's always problems with Mainland brands."

The tourist says he used to ask friends to bring dairy products back from Hong Kong or Macao. But this time, he himself spent more than 3-thousand yuan on this box of milk powder.

And some expectant-mothers who are months away from their due date, are considering buying the imported dairy products.

Parent from Zhuhai, Guangdong Province said, "I'm thinking of buying imported milk powder brands like Mead Johnson. It's of better quality.I heard those imported products sold on the Mainland are not safe enough. So I'll go to Hong Kong, as many of my friends do."

The trip to Hong Kong and Macao for dairy products is an inconvenient one for many. But some parents say these troubles are nothing compared to babies' health.
