Egypt's Vice President says the country has a plan for a peaceful transfer of power, and constitutional reform will go ahead. One of the measures is to form a commission tasked to oversee proposed political reforms.

Omar Suleiman made the announcement after briefing President Hosni Mubarak on the outcome of the national dialogue meeting.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon on Tuesday called for "an orderly and peaceful transition" in Egypt. The UN chief voiced his hope that what he called "genuine dialogue" between the leaders and the people would "lead to the beginning of such a process."

Omar Suleiman says the Egyptian government has a clear timetable for peace and organized transfer of power. Referring to the national dialogue between the government and the opposition, Suleiman says President Hosni Mubarak confirms Egypt is on the right way to resolve the crisis.

Omar Suleiman, Egyptian Vice President, said, "The President welcomes this national agreement, stressing it is putting our feet on the right path to get out of the current crisis. It also stresses on continuing it and transferring it from broad lines to a clear roadmap, with a specific time frame which will put Egypt on the road to a peaceful and orderly transition of power."

Suleiman says reform to the country's constitution and legislation is still underway.

Tuesday, President Hosni Mubarak signed a decree to form a commission tasked to oversee constitutional and legislative amendments. The president also asked the prime minister to form a follow up committee to implement decisions taken by the parties to the national dialogue.

The two committees will start working immediately.

Mubarak has already instructed forming a committee to investigate the clashes between rival protesting groups last week in downtown Cairo. The results will be reported to the Attorney General in order to take the right procedures.

Suleiman says Mubarak has emphasized that young people involved in the clashes deserve to be appreciated by the nation. He has instructed not to prosecute or impose restrictions on the protesters or their right to freedom of expression.

Vice President Suleiman has been assigned to continue meetings to achieve national reconciliation. He has been working with opposition groups including the Muslim Brotherhood to draw plans for a democratic transition.
