The film is being hailed as the first Asian movie shot entirely in 3D. The story of the film is based loosely on the classic Spanish novel about a heroic knight's adventures, although the action will be relocated to the Chang'an dynasty. Filmko invested 75 million RMB on this film.

Professional crews are being hired from US and Germany to help in shooting the live-action film entirely in 3D, scheduled for early 2010 release, in which only action scenes are in 3D. Xiong Xin Xin, who provides the action direction, finds filming of action scenes in 3D to be very challenging.

According to the film's director, A Gan, nearly 60 percent of the film is made up of special effects, but China simply does not have technology advanced enough to deal with these shots. Aiming to make a truly domestic 3D film, A Gan tried several special effects companies before eventually taking his film to England, where he was able to use the equipment and technology from the hit film "Ice Age".

This film is Chinese adaptation of Spanish Novel "Don Quixote." The film will be set against the backdrop of ancient Chang An, whereby knighthood spirit of the original novel is being altered into a more wuxia-esque kind of chivalry.
