South Korea is staging an anti-terror drill amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula. The South Korean government says it is to help prepare for the country's hosting of the G20 summit in November.

The drills are part of the ongoing joint military exercises with the US. In Tuesday's scenario, commandos used helicopters to respond to a potential terrorist attack. Also on Tuesday, 100 peace activists gathered in front of the US Embassy in Seoul to protest against the joint drill. They say the drill is escalating tensions on the Korean peninsula.

You Young-Jae, Protest Leader, said, "The US and South Korean governments maintain the drills, which began yesterday, are a defensive exercise. But they're clearly an exercise for attacks, judging from their size and characteristics. The exercise is threatening peace on the Korean peninsula, so we are strongly against it and urge the US and South Korean governments to stop it."
