China is set to release its Medium and Long Term Development Plan for Renewable Energy. At the Energy Strategy Forum over the weekend, the main topic raised is scientific, green and low-carbon.

The Renewable Energy Plan is a comprehensive plan prepared by the Chinese Academy of Engineering. It outlines medium and long-term targets on renewable energy, and how they fit into China's economic development. The report is currently being finalised and will be released soon.

Zhou Dadi, Vice Director-General of Chinese Energy Research Society said "According to our analysis, by 2010 the consumption of coal will be around 4 billion tons. By 2030 will have reached around 4.5 billion tons, and by 2050 it will be about 5 to 5.5 billion tons."

The plan recommends that China should utilise natural gas as part of its energy strategy. It also says the country should increase imports of petroleum.

Wu Yin, Deputy Director of Bureau of Energy, National Development & Reform Commission said "During the 12th Energy Five Year Plan, we should pay attention to coal consumption. We should increase our exploration of natural gas, nuclear power and water electricity stations. We should make greater efforts to develop renewable energy. Our current volume of natural gas is about 4 percent, but it might be double that amount in 5 years."

Petroleum will play an important role for green energy by 2030. Water and electricity is one of the focus to develop renewable energy. At that time, the consumption of coal will reduce about 30%.

The 12th Energy Five Year Plan indicate that we should get rid of the low efficiency production of energy, greatly promote nature gas production. We should improve our saving system for nature gas, increase the imports of nature gas and adjust policies timely to encourage the usage of nature gas.
