This is the third meeting so far this year for Chinese President Hu Jintao and his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev.

President Hu noted there had been all-round progress in China-Russia relations in the first half of this year.

He said the two countries should make good on arrangements for high-level contacts, including Medvedev's visit to China and the regular meeting of prime ministers of the two countries.

He also said the two sides should work to advance cooperation in such areas as trade, economy, energy and local government to lift the level of practical cooperation and achieve more results.

Medvedev spoke highly of current bilateral relations, and called for more cooperation to deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Also on Thursday, Chinese President Hu Jintao met with Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, calling for the further advancement of bilateral cooperation between the two neighbors.

Hu thanked Rakhmon for sending him a letter of condolence after the devastating earthquake in northwest China's Qinghai Province in April.

He also expressed appreciation to Rakhmon and the government of Tajikistan for their support for China's hosting of the ongoing Shanghai Expo.

Rakhmon noted that the two countries completed the demarcation of their border lines earlier this month as their foreign ministries signed a relevant agreement in Beijing.

He said over the past year, bilateral cooperation in other areas also achieved rich results. With the assistance of China, Tajikistan has completed a number of major infrastructure projects, including bridges and an electricity transmission line connecting the power grids in northern and southern parts of the country.
