Heavy rain continues to wreak havoc in southern and central China, with no immediate signs that floods will ease. Roads have been submerged and residents evacuated from many towns. But as Tom Fearon tells us, there are new fears the flooding could spread to the country's northwestern region.

In Wuzhou City, in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region , the deluge has flooded roads, stranding many vehicles and paralyzing the city's traffic.

Mr. Liu, Wuzhou,Guangxi Zhuang Aut. Region, said, "I have never seen anything like this before."

Many rivers have burst their banks in central China's Hunan Province, causing floods in Fenghuang. Many locals have been evacuated and tourists were advised not to visit the ancient city. The wild weather has also forced businesses to close their doors.

During winter, Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was crippled by heavy snow. Now, it has been battered by high temperatures and heavy rainfall.

Water levels at many rivers have surged rapidly. In Altai Prefecture, water levels have hit record highs at the Erqisi and Wuhungu rivers.

Five-thousand people have been evacuated to safety and villagers have lined river banks with sandbags to prevent flooding.

Heavy rain has been forecast for the next few days, with the region on a high flood alert.
