In Eastern China's Yancheng city of Jiangsu Province, local farmers grow their vegetables in sea water, which has meant increased income each year.

Yancheng City was a place known for its salt production 30 years ago. Now people there have adopted the new achievements from China's latest scientific research. They've transferred the saline-alkali soil into fields that can grow grapes, mushrooms, flowers and vegetables.

The crops are totally watered by sea water. The farmers say a kilo of salt used to sell for just a couple of yuan, but they can get 20 yuan for a kilo of sea water grown vegetables.
