A 13-year-old American has become the youngest to scale the world's highest mountain after he reached the summit on Saturday.

Jordan Romero, from California, made the 8, 850 meter climb to the peak of Mount Qomolangma from China's Tibetan side.

He has now entered the record books as the youngest person to conquer the mountain.

Jordan Romero, US Teenage Climber, said, "It was a feeling like no other. We were having the time of our lives and it was the best view you can get anywhere in the world. A view of the world."

Jordan Romero arrived in Liping, a small town near Nepal's border with China, saying his record-breaking climb to the peak was harder than expected.

Meanwhile his father, Paul Romero, dismissed any controversy about Jordan's age.

Paul Romero, Jordan's Father, said, "We were so prepared, everything went absolutely perfect. It was an amazing expedition and everything was perfect. Age has nothing to do with anything.

Jordan was accompanied by his father and Sherpa guides on the climb. He says his next goal is to scale the highest mountains in every state of the United States.
