Cinema boycott leaves Alice in the cold

A new 3D movie has run into trouble because of the demands of the older DVD market. British cinema chain, Odeon, will not show Tim Burton's fantasy adventure "Alice in Wonderland" in Britain, Ireland and Italy because of a dispute over the timing of the film's DVD release.
The 3D blockbuster is set for release on 5th March in the UK, but some viewers might not be able to watch the film at their local cinema. Odeon has decided to boycott the Disney movie, because of a dispute over the timing of the film's DVD release.
Odeon objects to Walt Disney Pictures' decision to leave only 12 weeks between the film's cinema debut and DVD release, rather than the usual 17 weeks.
The cinema group claims it has invested "considerable sums of money" in digital projection equipment to show 3D films, and a shorter window to screen films would undermine its investment.
Odeon is one of Europe's largest cinema chains with 110 Odeon and UCI-branded theatres in Britain.
