Award-winning Hong Kong architect Gary Chang has come up with an idea which he says could improve the lives of low income people around the world. He has managed to turn his tiny apartment into a miniature 20-room mansion, using a system of sliding walls.

In Hong Kong, one residential hi-rise looks much like the next. Tiny box-like apartments are home to most of the city's seven million people. Architect Gary Chang is one of them, although his place is just a little different.

At only 32 square meters, it actually contains 24 different rooms. A series of sliding walls allow Chang to live in a multi-room home.

His living room wall slides back to reveal a storage and changing area, which he calls his spa. Behind the spa is a fully functioning bathroom. The wall position allows for both privacy and a measure of natural light from the apartment's one window.

When the bathroom is no longer in use, the space converts into a guest bedroom. For Chang, it's the perfect solution to Hong Kong's chronic shortage of residential space.
