Yunjin brocade dates back to the Southern Song Dynasty. Light and thin, Yunjin brocade merges picturesque landscapes with the profound culture of Nanjing, and reflects the marvelous concepts and painstaking work of numerous artisans. With soft and tough mulberry silk, flexible peacock feathers, and precious gold and silver thread, artisans produce the beautiful brocade on a complicated loom requiring meticulous technique.

Since entering the List, Yunjin Brocade is in dire need of artisans to inherit the skill. Using the brocade to make couture fashion is one way to attract the next generation. Wang Baolin, director of the Nanjing Yunjin Research Institute says that custom dresses are now available to suit every taste.
