Indonesian rescuers, have saved more than 240 people aboard a passenger ferry that sank Sunday morning in rough waters off Sumatra island. At least 29 people have died and more than a dozen are still missing.

Nearly 300 people were on board the ferry, which was designed to hold 273. It was sailing from Batam near Singapore to Dumai island in Riau Province, when it hit massive waves and sunk.

On Sunday night, the rescuers called off their operations due to the darkn and torrential waters. They will continue looking for those missing on Monday.The number of deaths is likely to rise as the chances of survival for those missing are fading.
