Heavy drought lingers over Southern China, lowering rivers and lakes to levels not seen in decades. Some regions are using water reservoirs to alleviate the disaster.

Water in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River reached the lowest level in 23 years. Conditions are even worse in South China's Zhujiang river, which is at its lowest level in half a century.

Local weather forecasters says no rain is expected in the coming month, which is likely to intensify the drought.

Meanwhile, managers of water reservoirs are taking steps to fight the drought. The three Gorges Dam has released more water to feed nearby lakes.
