Romantic comedy "Sophie's Revenge" is the latest effort from Chinese actress Zhang Ziji. She both produced and starred in the film and escorted major cast members to a press event in Beijing on Monday.
The comedy unites a number of big name actors including Zhang Ziyi, Fan Bingbing, and Yao Chen. It tells the story of cartoonist Sophie, played by Zhang Ziyi, who competes with a female celebrity for winning the heart of her prince charming. Zhang says she believes the funny story line will bring theater-goers a sense of cool, refreshing entertainment during this stifling season.
Zhang Ziyi said, "Surely the picture is a bit exaggerated, for it's a must in certain scenarios. Generally I think the acting experience is quite different this time, for it's my first comedy in about 10 years. I think a performance in a comedy needs certain boundaries. Sometimes you need to exaggerate to an extreme. And during other times, you need to be less dramatic."
The movie marks the first time for Zhang Ziji to work as a movie producer. Apart from acting, she still needed to take care of everything on shooting locations. Zhang says she's happy that everyone involved in the project was friendly and collaborative.
Zhang Ziyi said,"I've been acting for years. From the perspective of an actor, I like a producer who can take good care of me. I have talked to one of the investors. I said that even though conditions are limited, let's try our best to make everyone happy and comfortable."
"Sophie's Revenge" will hit cinemas across the country on August the 14th. The cast members will later head to Shanghai to promote the comedy.
