China has started temporary bans on the imports of pigs and pork products from some regions hit by the A-strain influenza. The Foreign Ministry says these measures are in line with WTO rules.

WTO rules allow for strict quarantine measures in emergencies.

As more A/H1-N1 infections are reported around the world, China has decided to temporarily ban pig and pork imports from some affected regions.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu says this is in line with WTO rules.

Ma said, "To safeguard China's stock industry and human health from the A/H1N1 virus, China has to temporarily ban on the imports of pigs and pork products from some regions hit by the A-strain influenza."
