Both Zhao and Chen Kun are expert in films with ancient Chinese themes. But they both feel the pressure of playing such well known characters.
Actor Chen Kun said, "The role Hua Mulan is a great challenge for Zhao Wei because people are so familiar with the ancient Chinese character and everyone has an image of her in their mind. My role is fictional so I don't feel much pressure. But I'll try my best to sculpt the role."
Zhao Wei was hurt in the battle scenes but she still feel great about portraying a female hero. The film is directed by Jingle Ma, a prominent Hong Kong cinematographer-turned director.
