Sniffer dogs are trained to use their noses to detect substances such as explosives and illegal drugs.
But police in Ecuador's Galapagos Islands have employed the dogs on an unusual mission protecting the archipelago's vulnerable ecosystems.
A total of ten dogs, once used by police in Colombia to sniff out drugs, are now helping catch smugglers carrying animal products and other items.
The dogs have been trained to sniff out seahorses, shells, and shark fins among other items. They will also help keep tourists from taking banned items as souvenirs.
