The second China International Violin Competition draws to a close, with a Chinese musician taking the top honour. The ten day festival in Qingdao was attended by competitors from around the world.
An expert panel of eleven judges chose the winners. The judges - all of them accomplished violinists and teachers - were called upon to adjudicate thirty-five contestants from all over the world. There were three rounds of competition during the ten days.
Chinese violinist, 24-year old Chen Yi, from the China Central Conservatory of Music, won the title. A contestant from Russia came second. A German violinist won the third prize.
This was the second time for the world class musical event to be held in Qingdao. The coastal city holds qualifying events for the competition every year.
