Andy Sachs is recent college graduate who finds herself completely out of place in her job at an ultra-chic fashion magazine. The 2006 movie "The Devil Wears Prada" was adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name. The movie is praised as the truest portrayal of fashion-world culture and its people. Though Andy regards her colleagues with disdain at first, she learns to feel affection for the people around her. In the end however, she decides she wants out.
One instance in which a screen beauty has muted her good looks to "play it for laughs," is in Stephen Chow's comedy, "God of cookery." Lovely Hong Kong actress Karen Mok charmed audiences with her off-kilter role in the film. It's the story of celebrity chef Chow, who runs a successful business empire. Mok plays Chow's unsightly muse. She captures audiences with a brilliant performance. Mok becomes a pioneer in the Hong Kong cinema, taking the lead in playing "ugly" roles for female stars.
