Expanding overseas has become the development strategy of increasingly more local construction companies in recent years.

As of late, the number of registered Qingdao companies engaging in overseas construction projects have grown to surpass 65.

Qingjian Group is a great example of this globalization trend among construction enterprises in Qingdao, as its ranking in Engineering News-Report’s 2017 list of Top 250 International Contractors jumped 13 positions to 64th, the highest among all local construction companies in China.

The Sule Square project in the central business district of Yangon, Myanmar earned Qingjian its 21st Luban Prize for Construction Project, as the 2016-2017 award list announced by China Construction Industry Association in November.

Commissioned by Shangri-La Group, the 90-meter high commercial complex has become a popular location for both business and leisure in Myanmar’s economic center.

In its more than 30 years’ experience in international expansion, Qingjian has been striving to diversify. Besides construction, it also developed a comprehensive industrial chain to maximize profits and improve efficiency.

It also developed a method of collaboration to introduce more Chinese enterprises to overseas markets while expanding its own business scope.

In Libya, the company set up automobile 4S shops in cooperation with Sinotruk. In Liberia, Cote d’ Ivoire and Ghana, it built exhibition centers to promote quality Chinese products. In Australia, it collaborated with local enterprises to create a one-stop marketplace for construction materials.

It now plans to build an e-commerce platform to facilitate trade exchange between China and Africa.

Other construction enterprises in Qingdao also made great efforts in globalization including SepcoIII Electric Power Construction Co and China State Construction Port Engineering Group. Their footprints have spread across Africa, Middle East, South and Southeast Asia.

A group of design and prospecting companies also made moves to tap overseas markets, gaining both profits and social acceptance.
