National marine science lab begins expansion project

The Qingdao National Lab for Marine Science and Technology will add a 36,000 square meters area in the east. Construction began on Dec. 18.
The existing western area boasts sound infrastructure and environment and a gathering of scientific research teams.
Up completion, the new area will hosts studies in marine technology and equipment, strategic new material, and marine energy, in a bid to achieve leapfrog development in marine science and technology.
