Qingdao was among the four Chinese cities recently included into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, a framework created in 2004 for promoting innovation and creativity.

The UCCN covers seven fields of creativity, namely, crafts and folk art, design, film, gastronomy, literature, music, and media arts. With a total of 64 new additions announced on Oct 31, the network now has 180 city members in 72 countries and regions.

Among the newly added members, Qingdao is covered in the film area, following previously listed Bradford in the UK, Sydney in Australia, Busan in South Korea, Galway in Ireland, Sofia in Bulgaria, Bitola in Macedonia, Rome in Italy, and Santos in Brazil.

While another three Chinese cities – Changsha, Macao and Wuhan – entered the fields of media arts, gastronomy, and design respectively.
