The archeological excavation of a group of Han Dynasty (202 BC—220 AD) tombs at Tushan Village, Huangdao District, Qingdao ended with key findings after it lasted for six months, The discovery was placed among the top five new archeological discoveries of Shandong.

In order to increase public knowledge and dissemination of the archeological findings and popularize archeological culture in general, the Qingdao municipal institute for cultural relics protection and research recently organized an activity for the public to visit the archeological scene. Hundreds of people applied to take part and 40 people were chosen as the first batch to gain the experience in Huangdao District.

“Wow! This is what Han Dynasty tombs look like. The coffins are so well protected. There are so many objects buried here. The experience is really an eye-opener,” participants of the activity said in excitement on the sport.

Since most of the participants have never visited the site before, they kept posing questions to the young archeologists present who were with the organizing institute and serve as guides for the them.

"I only learned about archeology through TV, newspaper and film before, and this field trip made me feel like travelling 2,000 years back in time to the Han Dynasty," said one participant.

Another participant Lu Siyong said that he had ridden tens of kilometers on his motorbike to take part in the activity because he thought it was quite a rare opportunity.
