Three tourism attractions in Ya’an city opened to the public for free on May 12 to show gratitude to enthusiasts who extended helping hands in the reconstruction works following the devastating magnitude-8 earthquake that struck Sichuan 10 years ago.

 

The city was heavily hit by the earthquake that took place on May 12, 2008.

 

A decade from then on, Ya’an has rejuvenated after the severe disaster. To give back to the zealous compatriots who offered selfless help in the process, the city offered free entrance to three of its most appealing tourism attractions on the very day when the earthquake took place ten years ago.

 

The three Ya’an tourist sites opened for free to the public on May 12 are as follows:

 

Mengding Mountain

 

Mengding Mountain is one of the three most famous historic and cultural mountains in the province, juxtaposed with Mount Emei and Mount Qingcheng, boasting breathtaking views and rich Buddhist and Taoist culture.

 

Shenmulei scenic area

 

Located in Qiaoqi Tibetan township, in Baoxing county, the Shengmulei scenic area offers unspoiled natural environment at 2,300 to 4,300 meters above sea level. Towering ancient trees, sweeping alpine meadows, rolling mountain ranges and traditional Tibetan lifestyle make up the unique attraction of the site.

 

Dengchigou scenic area

 

Some 230 kilometers from Chengdu, the Dengchigou scenia area is an important habitat area for giant panda in Fengtongzhai township, northeast of Baoxing county.

 

Located among the Qionglai and Jiajin mountains, at where the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau transitioning to the Sichuan Basin, the scenic area offers opportunities to relax and unwind in the well preserved natural environment, admiring snow-capped mountain peaks and lush vegetation.
