Sichuan provincial cultural authority is hosting the first grand folk art exhibition in the province’s history to honor artists from rural areas at the Hong Museum, in Chengdu. From Jan. 29 to March 2, the show will open to the public for free.

 

More than 370 pieces of artwork are on show, representing a comprehensive lineup of local art forms, covering Yi People’s lacquerware, Chinese New Year paintings, farmer paintings, bamboo weaving, wheat straw patchwork, Sichuan embroidery, Qiang People’s embroidery, clay figurine, paper umbrella and shadow puppetry.

 

The exhibitions included master pieces from dozens of folk art masters including Tibetan embroidery artist Yang Huazhen and Sichuan embroidery master Bai Hua.

 

The event arranged a number of folk craft demonstrations. 292 items were sold on site. A charitable auction will be organized and the incomes will be used to support participating artists and rejuvenate folk art development in rural areas.
