In recent years lantern show has become one of the most popular events during the annual Chinese New Year celebrations in Chengdu and part of the collective memory of the capital city of Sichuan.

A video documenting lantern shows from 1960s to the 21st century was displayed at the press conference to evoke a great many tender moments of family members enjoying the Chengdu lantern shows together.

This year’s lantern show will have a colorful profusion of lantern units taking on the themes of giant panda, traditional culture, modern Chengdu and the zodiac sign of the year – dog, at its primary venue, the Qicai Tianye (iridescent field) scenic area, where gourmet food, intangible cultural heritage demonstrations and art performances will also be available along with the on-site facilities including equestrian, amusement facilities for children, vegetable picking and animal watching. The wetland flower park nearby is also worth checking out.
