Ningxia Sand Lake tourist area is located 56 kilometers northwest of Yinchuan. Built and developed in 1990, it has become a quite famous tourist attraction in northwest district. It’s one of the 35 national top scenic spots for its unique and beautiful natural landscape. On May 8th, 2007, Shizuishan Sand Lake tourist area was approved formally as national AAAAA tourist attraction by National Tourism Administration.
Sand Lake has large areas of waters, dunes, reeds and lotus ponds, which are also rich in fish and birds like white crane, black crane, swan and so on. Tourists can watch birds from the observatory. Countless nests lie among the reeds, which are interspersed with colorful bird eggs in spring to show a natural wonder. It’s the paradise for birds, fish and tourists.
On the north of Sand Lake lies a desert covering an area of 20 square kilometers. It seems that the desert and lake are a match made in heaven. The surface of the lake ripples while the sand of the desert fluctuates.
