Ningxia has recently launched 29 new energy projects with 14 billion yuan (US$ 2.14 billion) in investment that is intended to boost the development of the new energy industry. Ningxia’s rich wind and solar power resources will be fully utilized through the development of new energy industry, said Yuan Jinlin, director of the Development and Reform Commission of Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region (DRCN). The region plans to have installed wind power of 5 million kilowatts and solar power of 600,000 kilowatts by 2015. The exploring of new energy will also boost the growth of fan manufacturing and solar cell material industries. So far, the annual capacity of wind turbines has reached 1 million kilowatts. The annual capacity of polysilicon and monocrystal silicon built or being built has reached 6,000 and 2,000 tons respectively. The annual output of solar cells has reached 100,000 kilowatts.
