- Location: Datong City, Shanxi Province

Located in the southwest corner of Datong City, Shanxi Province, Huayan Temple (華嚴寺) is the largest and most perfectly preserved temple of the Liao (907-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) regimes. It was built in the 8th year of Qingning reign (1062) of Liao Regime and partially destroyed in the war in the 2nd year of Baoda reign of Liao Regime. It was, however, renovated in 1140 during the Jin Regime.

In the mid-Ming period, the temple was divided into two parts: the Upper Huayan and Lower Huayan. The two parts were merged into one in 1963, and occupy an area of more than 16,600 m2. The temple's fame is due to the Buddhist scripture and painted Buddhist sculptures kept in the lower temple.
