Colombia, Chile, Peru seek joint efforts to attract Asian tourists

Colombia, Chile and Peru are seeking a joint strategy to attract Asians to major tourist destinations in the three countries.
At the Tourism Fair Anato 2011, which began here Wednesday, experts on tourism and investment promotion of the three countries explored possibilities of agreements to allow their agencies to form synergies, maximize resources, coordinate strengths so as to reach various markets worldwide, with particular emphasis on Asia.
"We want to complement each other, research at markets, and test. We are still identifying those opportunities and we will be reporting in a timely manner," said Maria Claudia Lacouture, president of Pro-export of Colombia, a government agency in charge of non-traditional exports, tourism and foreign investment.
Meanwhile, Debbie Feldman, chief of the Latin American branch of Tourism Chile, said the agreement will promote integration of the three countries as a region.
"The idea is to establish a common agenda in order to develop a strategy very well-tuned and thus have a high impact on the Asian market," said Renzo Ugarte, representative from PromPeru, Peru's Export and Tourism Promotion Board.
On Thursday, "Colombia Travel Mart" will be held to allow attendants to explore business opportunities and delegations to show the best of their nations' tourism.
