China's busy Spring Festival travel rush may ease a little, as heavy rain and snow that disrupted traffic in China's south provinces is coming to an end, China's weather authorities said Saturday.

China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said in a forecast on its website that most parts of China would embrace fine weather in the coming three days, while only some southwestern provinces would see rain and snow days continue.

But the CMA warned that temperature would remain below zero degrees Celsius in most southern regions and the north.

The central and western parts of Guizhou Province would see icy rains in the next three days, said the CMA.

Lingering rain and snow in south China had caused disruption to travel and transportation since the new year began, with temperatures down to their lowest since 1961 in the provinces of Guizhou, Hunan and Hubei.

The traditional Chinese Spring Festival, or chun jie in Chinese, is the country's most important festival. It falls on Feb. 3 this year. Workers nationwide enjoy a seven-day holiday that ends on Feb. 8.
