The latest Hurun Rich List shows real estate tycoon Wang Jianlin and his family are now the richest people on the Chinese mainland, the second time the business mogul has reached this pinnacle.

Wang, chairman of the Dalian Wanda Group, one of China's largest real estate developers, possesses a total wealth of 220 billion yuan (US$34.4 billion), up 52 percent over the previous year, thanks to the ten-fold increase in the value of his newly-listed cinema chain.

Jack Ma of Alibaba is back to No.2, with a fortune of 145 billion yuan (US$22.7 billion), followed by Zong Qinghou, chairman of one of China's largest beverage makers Hangzhou Wahaha Group, whose family wealth reaches 135 billion yuan (US$21.1 billion).

The ranking, the 17th edition of the kind, includes 596 dollar billionaires on the Chinese mainland, up 242 from the previous compilation. With the addition of 119 billionaires from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao, the total number of Chinese dollar billionaires reached 715, or 178 more than in the U.S.
