Sipadan Island, Malaysia

Sipadan, located in the Celebes Sea off the east coast of Sabah, is the only oceanic island in Malaysia. It was formed by living corals that grew on top of an extinct volcanic cone, taking thousands of years to develop. Lying at the heart of the Indo-Pacific basin, the island is one of the richest marine habitats in the world, with more than 3,000 species of fish and hundreds of coral species classified in the ecosystem. Diving in the deep, you may find yourself in the center of an underwater traffic jam as numerous barracuda, flapping rays, whitetip sharks and sea turtles pass you.
