Lufthansa Flight 181, a Boeing 737 aircraft, was hijacked on Oct. 13, 1977 by four militants who called themselves Commando Martyr Halime on the way to Germany. The terrorists aimed to secure the release of imprisoned Red Army Faction leaders. After a few days of flying, the plane finally landed in Mogadishu, Somalia. The West German counter-terrorism group GSG 9 took actions to successfully rescue all 86 passengers. Three of the terrorists were killed and one injured.
