Former Chelsea man Nicolas Anelka is currently playing as a striker for Shanghai Shenhua. He joined his new club in Jan. 2012 for an annual salary of 90 million yuan (€10.6 million) on a two-year contract, making him the most expensive foreign player in the Chinese Super League history.

Before coming to the Chinese club, Anelka had played for eight foreign clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea. His accumulated transfer fees amounted to ￡85 million (€102.85 million), making him one of the most valuable footballers ever in this aspect.

In Jun. 2010, Anelka, once a regular starter for the French national team, was kicked out of France's national team for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa for verbally insulting his coach Raymond Domenech.
