Certificates awarded to competition winners, whether in university competitions or those organized by companies or social organizations, can help graduates to land that dream job. There are many instances of students building their skills base and confidence through participating in various contests, and then landing plum jobs thanks to their certificates. Most of the student winners of cosmetic giant L'Oreal's e-Strat Challenge contests have been offered the opportunity to work at the company. In 2007, 26-year-old Wu Jiazhi, who graduated from Zhejiang University, was appointed vice president of technology for the Chinese subsidiary of TopCoder, a US-based software development firm. The young man won a record 39 out of the 45 programming contests held by the company while he was still an undergraduate.
