Summary of the Art of War is an early classic work on military strategy and tactics by Antoine Henri Jomini (1779-1869), a distinguished general in the French army and later in Russian service. In the work, Jomimi, based on the historic case studies on the French Revolution and Napeleonic Era, expounded on many practical military principles and approaches. Jomini asserted that war was an art, rather than a science, and defined the six key elements of the art of war: statesmanship, strategy, grand tactics, logistics, engineering and minor tactics. In essence, Jomoni's strategy stressed concentrating one's superior combat power at the decisive point to fatally overthrow the enemy. The book was read by almost all the generals of the American Civil War. It has far-reaching influences on the military thinking of the Western world and has been listed as a definitive military textbook by many European and American countries.
