Born Jan. 21, 1985, in Moscow, Russia, Sasha Pivovarova never dreamed of becoming a model. An art history student at the Russian University of the Humanities, her career in fashion began in 2005 when her friend and photographer Igor Vishnyakov sent her pictures to international fashion agency IMG. Two weeks later, she made her debut, opening the fall Prada show in Milan. She quickly became the face of Prada and had an exclusive contract with them for three consecutive years – the first model to walk for Prada in six consecutive seaons. She has been chosen as chief model by many top brands, including Calvin Klein, Gucci Cruise, and Julien MacDonald. She has also been featured on the covers of the Russian, British, and Australian editions of Vogue and was voted as one of the best models in the world in a Vogue poll. Pivovarova is also a successful artist. Her work has been featured in French Vogue and galleries in New York and Paris.
