Tomb Sweeping Day, also called "Cold Food Day", is the most important day for the Chinese people to offer sacrifice to ancestors and sweep the tombs of the deceased. Also, people will not cook on this day and only cold food is served. The Chinese now often eat pot-stewed meat dishes, tea eggs and bread on the festival as their lives have been improved.

The sweet green rice balls (Qing Tuan) is a Tomb Sweeping Day food popular in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces. It is also a must-have offering at ancestral rituals in the south of the Yangtze River. The custom of making sweet green rice balls dates back to the Zhou Dynasty over 2,000 years ago.
