   Truk Lagoon

Truk Lagoon is an atoll in the central Pacific north of New Guinea. During World War II, Truk Lagoon served as the forward anchorage for the Japanese Imperial Fleet. More than 50 vessels sank to the bottom of the Truk Lagoon during the war. These vessels often carried harmful substances, such as petroleum, chemicals and unexploded weapons. The place has become a scuba diving paradise, drawing wreck diving enthusiasts from around the world. The coral encrusted wrecks also attract a diverse array of marine life. Unfortunately, many divers are no longer coming up. Instead, they prefer to spend the rest of their (short) lives in this underwater paradise.
