Beijing will spend 180 billion yuan or about US$25 billion to improve traffic conditions in the city before 2008. All traffic routes, including highways and subways, will be expanded.
A senior Beijing government official says a series of measures will be taken to resolve Beijing's serious traffic jams in the next three years.
All traffic routes, including the light railway, subways and highways will be greatly expanded and efforts will be made to upgrade supporting traffic facilities, such as intersections and parking lots.
Beijing will also draw on the traffic management experience of cities that have hosted the Olympics and attract more foreign investment into the development of traffic infrastructure.
