Over 50 people were injured, one from a gunshot wound, when fans
from two Argentine third-division clubs clashed on Thursday in the
country's capital city, Buenos Aires, local media reported.
The fight broke out outside the El Porvenir Stadium, in Gerli,
in the greater Buenos Aires area, where Talleres de Remedios de
Esacalada and Los Andes were playing in a Metropolitan Group B
match.
The trouble allegedly began when Talleres fans alighted from two
local buses in the Hipolito Yrigoyen Avenue, and aimed rocks and
other objects at rival fans, despite the presence of the Buenos
Aires police.
The two groups of fans then battled for over 30 minutes, leaving
a trail of destruction, trashing car windscreens and shop windows.
The police came in to break up the hostilities with rubber bullets
and tear gas.
Despite the violence, the game proceeded with Talleres winning
4-0.
Three fans, including one suffering a bullet wound, will spend
the night in the Lanus neighborhood's Evita Hospital.
