| Federer Wins Third US Open in a Row |

Defending champion Roger Federer beat former champion Andy Roddick 6-2, 4-6,7-5 and 6-1 in Sunday's final to claim his third US Open title in a row and ninth Grand Slam. The win which lasted two hours and 27 minutes also made the top-seeded Swiss the first man in the history of tennis to capture Wimbledon and the US Open in three consecutive years. It was the third match-up in a Grand Slam final for Federer and Roddick, the fifth seeded American. Federer previously bested Roddick for the Wimbledon championship in 2004 and 2005. Roddick has just one victory in 11 lifetime meetings with Federer, beating him in the semifinals at the Montreal hardcourt event in 2003. Roddick has one Grand Slam crown, capturing the US Open title in 2003.
