Newly appointed Pumas UNAM manager Efrain Juarez has told his players they must be prepared to "bleed" as the club bids to resurrect its Liga MX title hopes.

Juarez took charge of his first training session on Monday, two days after signing a contract with the struggling Mexico City-based club.

"To be a champion you have to be prepared to bleed and that's what we're going to do," Juarez said in a video of a team meeting posted on social media.

"Those who commit to this cause have to be prepared to give everything, 100 percent. That's what you have to do to be a champion," added the 37-year-old, who replaced Gustavo Lema after a 4-2 defeat to Tijuana.

Pumas, one of Mexico's most popular teams, won the last of its seven top-flight titles in 2011. The club is currently 12th in the Liga MX Clausura standings with just 11 points from 10 games so far this season.

Juarez played for Pumas from 2008 to 2010 in a career that included 39 Mexico caps.
